East Penn's maintenance-free sealed gel batteries can be used interchangeably with flooded deep cycle batteries in many cycling applications. They are particularly suited for those applications where cycling or deep cycle demands are high and ongoing maintenance can be challenging.
The electrolyte in gel batteries is suspended in a thixotropic gel, which resembles the consistency of petroleum jelly. The gelled substance protects the battery plates from ultra deep discharges, providing a much longer cycle life compared to flooded or AGM batteries.
The non-gassing nature of gel batteries enables them to be used in controlled environments and around sensitive electronics. Their spill-proof properties, even when punctured, significantly reduce the risk of injury to people and equipment if an accident occurs.
